Viña Las Pitras is a wine company belonging to the Balbontín family. La empresa fue fundada en el año 1934 by Rafael Balbontín Fuenzalida who observed on the terraces of the Teno River within the Curicó Valley the perfect climate and soil needed to plant its first strains, such as Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Después de algunos años, Rafael’s son, Juan Balbontín Labbé, took the lead and continued with the expansion of the vineyards and the modernization of the old wine cellar, with equipment and machinery of last generation, necessary to produce high quality wines. Currently the company is run by Rodrigo Balbontín Vicuña the third generation of the family business.

The winery is located beside the Manor House of Viña Las Pitras, a typical building of the Chilean colonial period build more than 200 años. The buiding is a tourist attraction of the vineyard, for its beauty and for the good state of conservation and the beautiful surroundings parks, as well as being inhabited by the 3rd and 4th generation of the Balbontín family, who welcome the visitors cordially.

Majadilla vineyard

Majadilla is the name that receives one of the vineyards that offers a spectacular view towards the valley and it is located on the steep hill with something more than 35° pending and falling on the Mataquito River. This ambitious project began in the year 2000 with the planting of strains such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, Petit Verdot and Syrah widely recognized in the national and international markets. This hill represents a tourist attraction of the vineyard, due to its impressive surroundings and southern exposure and also because its vineyards are crossed by the road J-60 that connects Curicó with the coast. Just 25 minutes from Curicó.

The vineyards are located 7 kilometers west of Curicó (200 kms south of Santiago), on the way to the coast in the direction of Iloca and Duao (Route J-60), in the Central Valley of Chile. The water that flows down the Teno River from the Andes mountain range and which converges in the Pacific Ocean waters the more than 140 hectares planted that make up the vineyards.
