San Antonio Valley

The San Antonio Valley is a seafront fringe valley located in the coastal plateau of the Aconcagua viticultural region. The relief is of hills not over 500 m.a.s.l. and soft slopes. The vines are cultivated in sloping lands irrigated with water pumped from deep wells. The San Antonio valley has a warm temperate climate. Due to its location and relief, it receives the influence of the sea, through coastal winds, which moderate the temperatures.

San Antonio Valley

The San Antonio Valley is a seafront fringe valley located in the coastal plateau of the Aconcagua viticultural region. The highway between Santiago and Viña del Mar frames it to the north and the Santiago – San Antonio highway to the South. It is located 120 kilometres to the Southwest of Santiago between Casablanca and San Antonio. The relief is in general, of hills not over 500 m.a.s.l. and soft slopes. Height increases toward the Northeast and Southeast, following the relief of the Coastal Range. The vines are cultivated in softly sloping lands and irrigation water is pumped from deep wells. There is a small sub-region of the San Antonio Valley wine region, the Leyda Valley which is located at 33 39’ 57’’ south. The average vineyards altitude is of 180 m.a.s.l.   The San Antonio Valley and the Leyda Valley subregion, are a seafront fringe valley located in the coastal plateau of the Aconcagua viticultural region. It is located 90 kilometers to the Southwest of Santiago between Casablanca and San Antonio. While the San Antonio Valley is over the coastline, the Leyda Valley distance to the Pacific Ocean coastline is just 7 kilometers.

Soils

Different soil types are found in this valley: alluvial soils of moderate development predominate, but there are also soils of scarce development, generally derived from high marine terraces. These have flat to slightly inclined relief and reddish-brown colours. Additionally, there are well-developed soils, which evolved from granitic rocks and show high clay content in depth.

Climate

The San Antonio valley has a warm temperate climate. Due to its location and relief, it receives the influence of the sea, through coastal winds, which moderate the temperatures. There is a frost-free period of ten months more or less, frost may happen only between the months of June to August. Although the mean temperature in summertime reaches 25 °C and the mean annual temperature is 14,4 °C. Rains fall from May to October; the mean annual rainfall is 450 mm. The months of November to April are considered dry.
