Climate

There is a strong influence from the Pacific Ocean over the climate along the coast at the west side of the Coastal Mountain Range of Chile, which is particularly cool because of the cold Antarctic waters of the Humboldt Current. The Coastal Climate of Leyda presents a moderate rainy winter, with an annual rainfall of 250mm, and a dry summer. The frost free growing season in the valley stands out for its cool weather conditions, with maximum temperatures between 24 to 25 º C and a daily temperature variation of 12 to 13ºC during the dry summer season. Ocean mist clears up early in the morning allowing ample sunny days with high luminosity and a relative humidity of 60%. As a consequence of these climatic characteristics the ripening period occurs at a slow pace, which leads to the correct development of pure fruity aromas, flavours, minerality and a perfect balance of sugar level and acidity in the grapes.
